Thirteen people were arrested in Birmingham city centre as part of an operation targeting knife crime, West Midlands Police confirmed.
Operation Details
On Friday, May 22, plain clothes and uniformed officers deployed a knife arch at the ramp on New Street. The operation was part of the national Operation Sceptre initiative, which aims to reduce youth violence across the UK.
Arrests and Offences
Officers conducted 15 stop and searches. Among the arrests, one person was held for possession of an offensive weapon, another for possession of a bladed article, and one for wounding. Additionally, one individual was arrested for theft of a bike, another for possession of drugs with intent to supply, and one for assaulting an officer. A person was also arrested for failing to appear at court, and a wanted sex offender was recognised and taken into custody.
Sergeant Jon Humphries, from Birmingham city centre police, said: "We worked alongside the Central Business Improvement District (BID) to carry out the operation, which was really well received in the city centre and had some great results."
