A man described as dangerous and reckless has been jailed for starting a fire in his Northampton flat and fleeing the scene with no consideration for the safety of other residents in the building. Brandon Rolfe, aged 31, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Northampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

The fire occurred at approximately 5:30 PM on July 7 last year at a property on Emerald Way in Northampton. A neighbor spotted smoke coming from Rolfe's flat and alerted him as he rushed past. When informed that his flat was on fire, Rolfe simply replied, "Yeah, I know," and continued walking away without taking any action to help or warn others.
Fire investigators later determined that the most probable cause of the blaze was deliberate ignition on the floor next to the washing machine. The investigation also revealed that the smoke detector had been removed from the premises, further exacerbating the risk to residents.

Rolfe was arrested on suspicion of arson on the same day as the fire and was subsequently charged. In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge.
