A Birmingham woman has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after a disturbing crime spree that culminated in her throwing human faeces at police officers during her arrest.
Jodie Gaskin, 31, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court where she received a 28-month sentence for multiple offences including burglary, theft, and assaulting emergency workers.
A Pattern of Criminal Behaviour
The court heard how Gaskin's criminal activities began with the burglary of a property in Erdington on October 10th last year. She forcibly entered the home and stole various personal items belonging to the residents.
Just two days later, Gaskin was caught on CCTV stealing from vehicles in the Kingstanding area, demonstrating a clear pattern of escalating criminal behaviour.
Shocking Assault on Police Officers
The most disturbing aspect of Gaskin's crimes occurred during her arrest on October 13th. While in police custody, she became violent and aggressive towards the officers attempting to process her.
In a truly shocking act of defiance, Gaskin threw human faeces at two police constables, subjecting them to what the court described as a "disgusting and degrading" experience.
Justice Served at Birmingham Crown Court
Detective Constable Tanya Jones from West Midlands Police commented on the case, stating: "This was a disgusting and degrading experience for the officers involved, who were simply doing their job."
She added: "We hope this sentence sends a clear message that assaults on emergency workers will not be tolerated."
Gaskin pleaded guilty to all charges, including two counts of assault on an emergency worker, one count of burglary, and two counts of theft from a motor vehicle.
The 28-month sentence reflects the seriousness of her offences, particularly the assault on police officers who serve to protect the community.
