Birmingham Driver Sentenced to Seven Years for Fatal High-Speed Collision
Mohammed Ali, a 27-year-old from Birchfield, has been jailed for seven years after causing a fatal crash on Soho Road in Handsworth, Birmingham, which resulted in the death of Hizar Hanif. The incident occurred on February 18, 2024, when Ali was driving an Audi A4 at speeds of up to 90mph, dangerously overtaking other vehicles before ploughing into the back of Mr. Hanif's car.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Hizar Hanif, aged 32, was travelling with a friend to collect suits for an upcoming wedding when the collision happened. He died at the scene, while his friend sustained minor physical injuries but continues to recover from the emotional trauma of the loss. Additionally, Ali's vehicle collided with another car, seriously injuring that driver. Following the crash, Ali was taken to hospital, where he verbally and physically assaulted a police officer, leading to further charges.

At a hearing in Birmingham Crown Court last month, Mohammed Ali pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and assaulting a police officer. He was sentenced on April 17 to seven years in prison and banned from driving for four years and six months upon his release. The court heard a heartfelt statement from Mr. Hanif's wife, who described the devastating impact on their family, highlighting the loss of a loving husband, father, son, and brother.
