Birmingham Drug Driver Over Four Times Limit Vows No Repeat

A 22-year-old man from Birmingham who was caught driving with more than four times the legal limit of cannabis in his system has told a court 'it won't happen again'. Tyler Nixon, of Umberslade Road, Birmingham, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court unrepresented and was handed a 12-month community order along with a 16-month driving ban.

The Incident

Police stopped Nixon's Seat Arona on Frankley Beeches Road on December 15 last year after following him into a car park. A roadside test proved positive, and further analysis revealed he had 9g/L of delta-9 cannabinoid in his system - 4.5 times the legal limit of 2g/L. Prosecutors said evidence was consistent with cannabis use inside the vehicle.

Court Appearance

During the hearing, Nixon was asked if he was remorseful and replied: 'Yeah, of course.' He also told magistrates: 'It won't happen again.' The court heard that Nixon already had four previous convictions for five offences, including burglary and theft, and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of the offence.
