Birmingham man sought after nightclub assault

British Transport Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to after two women were punched at a Newcastle nightclub. The man is believed to have links to the Birmingham area.

The assault took place at Jalou nightclub in Newcastle-upon-Tyne at around 2.15am on Saturday, 27 June. According to the force, a woman was verbally abused by a man. When her friend intervened to de-escalate the situation, the man punched both women in the face, causing swelling and extensive bruising, including to their eyes.

Police appeal for information

Officers are keen to identify the man pictured in the released images. In a statement, the force said: "Detectives investigating an assault at Jalou nightclub in Newcastle have released these images in connection. At around 2.15am on Saturday, June 27, a woman was verbally abused by a man. As her friend intervened to de-escalate the situation, the man then punched both women in the face, causing swelling and extensive bruising, including to their eyes. The man is believed to have links to the Birmingham area."

The statement continued: "Officers would like to speak to the man pictured, as they believe he may have information that could assist their investigation."

Anyone who recognises the man is asked to text British Transport Police on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 352 of 20 July. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The incident adds to a series of recent police appeals involving Birmingham-linked individuals, but this investigation remains focused on the assault at the Newcastle venue.
