Birmingham stand-off ends with arrest after 13-hour siege

A 20-year-old man has been arrested following a 13-hour stand-off with police in Aston, Birmingham. The incident, which began around midnight on 8 July, saw the man barricade himself inside a property on Westwood Road, Perry Barr.

Police negotiators resolve the situation

Specialist police negotiators were called to the scene to de-escalate the situation. The stand-off concluded safely after more than 13 hours, with the man taken into custody.

West Midlands Police confirmed the arrest on suspicion of making threats with a bladed article in a private place and possession of Class A drugs. The suspect remains in police custody.

Community thanked for patience

A police spokesperson said: "We were called to Westwood Road, Perry Barr last night (8 July) after reports a man had barricaded himself in an address. The matter was brought to a safe conclusion. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats with a bladed article in a private place and possession of Class A drugs. He remains in police custody. We want to thank the local community for their patience."

The road was sealed off during the incident, with an ambulance also seen at the scene. No injuries have been reported.
