Birmingham Car Cannibalism Probe Reaches Court
Two teenagers from Birmingham are set to appear before magistrates today, charged in connection with a series of car cannibalism offences that targeted over a dozen vehicles across the city.
Charges and Court Appearance
Mikaeel Ryan and Muhammad Sudais, both aged 18 and from Birmingham, have been charged with conspiracy to steal from a motor vehicle and conspiracy to steal motor vehicles. The pair are scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on the morning of Thursday, November 27.
Details of the Offences
The charges follow a police investigation into incidents that occurred between 1 June 2024 and 20 October 2024. During this period, around 10 cars were stripped of their parts in areas including Nechells, Sutton Coldfield, Edgbaston, and Castle Bromwich. Additionally, two other vehicles were reported as stolen.
This crime wave, often referred to as 'car cannibalism', involves thieves dismantling vehicles to sell valuable components.
Police Statement and Public Appeal
In an official statement, police confirmed the court appearance and reiterated their appeal to the public. They urged anyone with information or concerns about this type of crime to contact them on 101. The force also emphasised that if anyone is seen acting suspiciously near a vehicle, the public should call 999 immediately.
