Birmingham's Most Dangerous Areas Revealed in New Crime Data Report

Newly released crime statistics from West Midlands Police have identified the most dangerous places to live in Birmingham, based on serious offences investigated over the past year. The data, covering the 12 months to January 2026, shows thousands of serious crimes reported across the city, with certain areas experiencing significantly higher rates of violence and sexual offences.

Crime Capitals: Lozells, East Handsworth, and Aston

Lozells, East Handsworth, and Aston continue to top the list as Birmingham's crime capitals, according to the latest figures. This northern pocket of the city, situated just outside the centre, has long grappled with issues of crime and deprivation, including violent gang conflicts that have plagued local streets for years. The policing areas of Lozells and East Handsworth recorded 2,367 violent and sexual offences, while Aston reported 2,323 such incidents, making them the highest in the region.

These categories encompass the most severe crimes, ranging from murders and stabbings to sex attacks, domestic abuse, and physical altercations. The persistence of serious offending in these neighbourhoods underscores ongoing challenges for residents and law enforcement alike.

Other High-Risk Areas and Contrasting Low-Crime Zones

South Yardley also reported over 2,000 violent and sexual offences, with a total of 2,009, while Stockland Green was just below that threshold at 1,986. In contrast, some of the lowest crime rates were found in more affluent, leafy suburbs such as Sutton Coldfield, where areas like Sutton Four Oaks recorded only 344 offences, highlighting stark disparities across the city.

Despite these troubling numbers, West Midlands Police chiefs have noted that overall crime is falling in the region, suggesting efforts to curb criminal activity may be having an impact in some areas.
