A teenager charged with a bomb hoax that forced the evacuation of a Peter Kay comedy show in Birmingham was removed from court after he started to undress.
Omar Majed, 19, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court via video-link from HMP Brinsford. The hearing was cut short when the defendant began removing his prison-issue grey tracksuit bottoms.
Judge Andrew Smith KC was attempting to inform Majed of his next court date when he noticed the defendant's actions. The judge stated for the record that prison staff had understandably escorted Majed out of the video hearing room.
Majed, from Saltley, is charged with communicating false information to police contrary to the Criminal Law Act. He was not arraigned due to the need for psychiatric reports. A further case management hearing was set for July 27, with a provisional trial date of November 3, lasting two weeks.
The incident occurred on May 1 at the Utilita Arena, where Kay, 52, was performing as part of his Better Late Than Never national tour. The show was cancelled after an evacuation was ordered following a report of a suspicious bag.
West Midlands Police later confirmed that nothing suspicious was found during searches. In a statement, the force thanked the public for their cooperation and emphasized that public safety was their priority.
Kay's tour, which sees all proceeds donated to 12 cancer charities, continues across the UK.
