Brent Brothers Sentenced to Prison for Horrific Christmas Kidnap and Rape
Two brothers described as 'dangerous' have been jailed for the 'horrific' kidnap and rape of a woman in her 40s, following a Christmas event in Queensbury, North West London, in December 2023. The case saw a dramatic legal turnaround after an initial dismissal was overturned on appeal.
Details of the Attack and Investigation
The victim encountered Vasile Todoran after leaving the Christmas event. CCTV footage revealed she was forcibly taken to an address where Vasile and his brother Marius Todoran rented a room. She attempted to escape multiple times before being forced into the property and raped.
The brothers were charged, and a trial began in November 2024. However, the judge ruled there was no case to answer, leading to the case being dismissed. This decision was heavily challenged by the Metropolitan Police and prosecution, resulting in it being escalated to the Court of Appeal.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
The dismissal was overturned, and the case returned to the crown court for a full retrial. After a re-examination of all evidence, the brothers were found guilty at Kingston Crown Court on February 27, 2026.
During a sentencing hearing on April 8, Marius Todoran, 40, of Girton Avenue, Brent, was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for rape. Vasile Todoran, 43, of the same address, received a 10-year sentence for rape, kidnap, and kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence. Both brothers have been added to the sex offenders’ register for life.
Statements from Authorities and Survivor
Detective Sergeant Josh Dwyer, who led the investigation, commended the bravery of the victim-survivor, stating: “She has shown remarkable strength and courage in speaking to police and throughout the investigation and trial. Her testimony was instrumental in ensuring justice was achieved.”
He added: “The Met remains committed to tackling violence against women and girls, removing dangerous offenders from London’s streets, and ensuring victims-survivors get the right support at every stage of the criminal justice process.”
The survivor expressed gratitude, saying: “I would like to thank the police for all the help and support they offered me throughout the case, especially Detective Sergeant Josh Dwyer. I don’t think that I would’ve been able to get through this without all police officers’ help and care.”
She also urged others: “I would like to say to whoever reads this to trust and call the police when something happens to them.”
