Parents have expressed their shock and concern following the abduction of a four-year-old boy in a Black Country park. The incident occurred at Haden Hill Park in Cradley Heath on Thursday, June 18, just after 3pm.
Incident Details
The young boy disappeared from his mother's side while she was tending to a baby near the pond. He was missing for several minutes before being found in nearby woodland. West Midlands Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for information.
Community Reaction
Despite the warm weather, families visiting the park for walks, exercise, and play quickly turned from joy to apprehension upon hearing the news. Kish Valeti, a father of two, said: "It's very worrying for any parent - it's a crowded park."
A group of eight women who brought five children to play after school were shocked. One woman commented: "You've got to be vigilant and keep an eye on them. We want to bring the children out because the weather's nice and you want the children to play. It's shocking."
A local fisherman who visits the park daily was approached by police earlier in the day. He said: "I was here yesterday but didn't see anything, but when I went home I saw a post on Facebook about a kidnapping. When I came here, there were about two police officers at the back of the car park and they asked if I had seen anyone loitering, but I hadn't because I am focused on the fishing. It's shocking."
Suspect Description
Police have described the suspect as a black male in his late teens, short in height, with curled hair, clean-shaven, and wearing black clothing.
Police Statement
West Midlands Police stated: "We believe this is an isolated incident, but we understand how concerning it is and understand the impact it will have in the area and to the local community. We are currently studying CCTV as we investigate. We are also appealing for witnesses to come forward, and we’re particularly keen to hear from people who may have been in the park at the time and may have any mobile footage to please contact us."
