Staffordshire Police’s major and organised proactive crime team stopped a white Mini Cooper in the Belgrave area of Tamworth on Monday, April 13, and found Juli Gjuzi in the driver’s seat alone. Officers seized his iPhone and £166 in cash, and a search of the car revealed three bags of cocaine under the front passenger seat and two more bags attached to the driver’s side door frame.
Arrest and Admission
Gjuzi, 34, from Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, was arrested at the scene and the vehicle was seized. He later admitted possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A (cocaine), being concerned in the supply of cocaine, and acquiring/using/possessing criminal property.
The case was heard at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday, August 5, where Gjuzi was jailed for two years and eight months. The arrest was part of Operation Target, an initiative by Staffordshire Police to tackle serious and organised crime across the county.
Operation Target and Community Impact
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “Through Operation Target we have been working hard to identify, disrupt and pursue criminals who plan, organise and commit serious criminal offences across the county. This includes drug supply, illegal firearms, knife crime, human trafficking and sexual exploitation.”
“If you have any concerns around drug-related activity in your community, contact us by calling 101, or via Live Chat on our website. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The seizure of the cocaine and the subsequent jail sentence reflect the ongoing efforts of the police to remove drugs from the streets of Tamworth and the wider Midlands area, with the case highlighting the reach of drug supply networks operating across the UK.
