Disqualified driver jailed after killing friend in Oldbury crash

A disqualified driver who killed his friend in a crash in Oldbury has been jailed for 10 years. Corey Brown, 20, was driving a stolen blue Ford Fiesta on Newbury Lane on March 20, 2025, with two friends as passengers. He was speeding and overtaking vehicles on the opposite side of the road, well above the 30mph limit.

Collision and aftermath

Brown clipped a central reservation bollard, causing the car to lose control. It hit three parked vehicles on a driveway and then a lamppost. After the crash, Brown fled the scene, leaving his two friends in the car.

Kristian Danielov, 21, who was in the rear passenger seat, suffered serious injuries and died in hospital nine days later. A 19-year-old man in the front passenger seat was also seriously injured.

Brown already disqualified

Police established that Brown was already disqualified from driving at the time. The Ford Fiesta had been stolen from an address in the West Mercia police force area. Brown was arrested at his home on Albert Street, Lye, shortly after the collision.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, and driving offences. He admitted the offences at an earlier hearing and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on July 3, 2025.

Police statement

Detective Sergeant Richard Evans of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “A young man lost his life due to dangerous and reckless driving by someone he called a friend. It was a tragic incident, and Brown will now pay the price for his actions – spending a long stretch behind bars. I hope this sentence sends a strong message to anyone that thinks it’s ok to drive a car dangerously – your actions could have a devastating impact.”
