Safer Streets Funding

In July 2025, Braintree District Council secured £138,619 of funding from the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s Office to help target crime and antisocial behaviour in specified areas of Braintree. This followed £300,223 of funding under the Home Office’s Safer Streets Fund for areas of Halstead in 2023 and £297,202 of Home Office Safer Streets funding in 2022 for areas of Witham. As a result, all three key towns within the Braintree District have benefited from Safer Streets funding.

Council Comments

Cllr Mary Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities at Braintree District Council, said: “This event is always really popular and we know many of our residents are dog owners. The Essex Dog Watch scheme is a way for dog walkers to report anything suspicious they might see, walking similar routes on a daily basis. This event will be a great opportunity to find out more about the Safer Streets Project and learn about local support and information.”

The Council is currently running a survey asking residents of Braintree for their views on crime and safety in the town. To share your views, visit: www.braintree.gov.uk/saferstreets.
