The accident occurred on February 18, 2024, along Soho Road in Handsworth. Witnesses reported that Ali was dangerously overtaking other vehicles moments before the crash. His Audi A4 ploughed into the back of the car where Hizar Hanif, 32, was a passenger. Hanif and his friend were traveling to collect suits in preparation for a wedding scheduled for the following week.
