Driver Sentenced to Seven Years for Fatal High-Speed Collision in Birmingham
A man has been imprisoned after a tragic incident where another man lost his life in a devastating car crash on a Birmingham road. Mohammed Ali, aged 27, was driving an Audi A4 at speeds reaching up to 90mph when he collided with the vehicle carrying Hizar Hanif, resulting in Hanif's death at the scene.
Details of the Fatal Incident on Soho Road
The accident occurred on February 18, 2024, along Soho Road in Handsworth. Witnesses reported that Ali was dangerously overtaking other vehicles moments before the crash. His Audi A4 ploughed into the back of the car where Hizar Hanif, 32, was a passenger. Hanif and his friend were traveling to collect suits in preparation for a wedding scheduled for the following week.
Fortunately, Hanif's friend sustained only minor physical injuries but continues to recover emotionally from the loss. Additionally, Ali's vehicle collided with another car, seriously injuring that driver. Following the crash, Ali was taken to the hospital, where he verbally and physically assaulted a police officer, leading to his arrest.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Mohammed Ali, residing on Robert Road in Birchfeld, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court last month. He faced charges of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and assaulting a police officer. Yesterday, on April 17, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. Upon his release, he will be banned from driving for four years and six months.
