Former Warwick School Teacher Appears in Court on Historic Sexual Offence Charges
A former West Midlands schoolteacher has made his first court appearance after being charged with multiple historic child sex offences dating back to the 1980s.
Paul Stainsby, 75, who taught at Warwick School during the period when the offences are alleged to have occurred, faces serious charges relating to five different boys.
Details of the Charges
The charges against Stainsby include:
- Nine separate counts of indecent assault
- One count of gross indecency with a boy under sixteen years of age
All charges were formally brought against the former teacher in December last year, with the alleged offences taking place while he was employed at Warwick School in the 1980s.
Court Proceedings and Next Steps
Stainsby appeared before Leamington magistrates on January 23 for his initial hearing. Due to the serious nature of the allegations, the case has been referred to Warwick Crown Court for further proceedings.
The former teacher, who was previously resident in Dunmow, Essex, is scheduled to return to court on February 20, where he will be expected to enter his plea regarding the charges.
Police Statement
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson confirmed the details of the case, stating: "A former schoolteacher has appeared in court after being charged with a string of non-recent sexual offences. Paul Stainsby, 75, was a teacher at Warwick School in the 1980s, when the offences are alleged to have taken place."
The spokesperson further elaborated that the charges specifically relate to offences against five different boys, with the case now progressing through the crown court system due to its severity.
The legal proceedings will continue next month as the judicial system examines these serious historic allegations against the former educator.
