Four Arrested After Protest Blocks Road Near Lichfield Factory

Four individuals have been arrested following a protest that blocked a road and the entrance to a business in Shenstone, near Lichfield. The demonstration occurred on Lynn Lane early Monday, June 1, causing significant disruption to local traffic.

Protest Details

Protestors reportedly locked themselves onto the gates of UAV Engines, a factory that manufactures engines for drones. The facility is owned by Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense technology company. Additionally, a vehicle was allegedly left blocking the road, forcing police to close the junction with Pinfold Hill.

Staffordshire Police responded to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. and arrested four people on suspicion of public order offenses. The road was reopened just after 11 a.m. after the vehicle was recovered. Police remain in the area to reassure the community.

Company Response

Protestors claimed the factory produces and exports equipment for the Israeli military. However, a spokesperson for UAV Engines Limited denied these allegations, stating: "The accusation that UAV Engines Limited is exporting engines to Israel for use by the Israeli military is categorically false. We proudly offer engineering excellence with locally designed and produced engines delivered to the UK armed forces and customers worldwide. We continue to work with authorities to prevent this disgraceful campaign of violence and intimidation."

The protest highlights ongoing tensions surrounding defense supply chains and international conflicts. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
