A 29-year-old man was found dead in a Birmingham graveyard just one week after telling professionals he was 'coping well', an inquest has revealed.
Discovery at Handsworth Cemetery
Dejen Tesfay, originally from Eritrea, Africa, was discovered in Handsworth Cemetery on the morning of Sunday, May 3. He was confirmed deceased at 11.17am. Mr Tesfay had been living in shared accommodation on Alfred Road, Handsworth, where he received support from a care worker.
He was last seen on Monday, April 27, when he told his support worker that he was managing his condition. Senior Coroner Louise Hunt, who conducted the inquest in writing, ruled that Mr Tesfay died by suicide.
Mental Health Struggles
According to the coroner, Mr Tesfay had a known history of anxiety, depression, and low mood. However, he had declined further support and insisted he was coping well when last seen. The inquest did not identify any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
