A man who assaulted his ex-girlfriend in a pub and then stole her vehicle near Lichfield has been sentenced to prison. Sam Newbrook, 25, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, approached his former partner at a pub in September last year and struck her on the head with the palm of his hand.
Incident Details
After the victim left the pub, Newbrook followed her, and she began driving him home. However, during the journey, Newbrook became agitated, forcing her to pull over on Sycamore Road in Burntwood. According to Staffordshire Police, when both exited the car, Newbrook pulled the victim to the ground, grabbed her car keys, and drove off.
Police later located Newbrook driving the stolen car near the Bowling Green roundabout in Lichfield. He failed to stop for officers and later abandoned the vehicle in Burntwood. Officers subsequently found Newbrook at the victim's address.
Charges and Sentence
Newbrook was charged with robbery, assault by beating, harassment without violence, taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, and driving while disqualified. He admitted to all charges. At Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday, June 9, he was sentenced to four years and two months in prison. Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting the survivor for seven years.
Detective Constable Elliott Domeney of Staffordshire Police stated: “Newbrook’s actions on this day were utterly deplorable. I’m pleased we were able to build all of the evidence needed to secure this outcome for the survivor. We’re working tirelessly to support survivors of domestic abuse in Staffordshire and to take robust action against those responsible for these offences.”
