Jadon Sancho, the former Manchester United winger who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, has reportedly been presented with a lucrative contract offer from Qatari Stars League side Al Rayyan. The 26-year-old is currently a free agent after his United contract expired this summer, following loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Sancho's Uncertain Future After Old Trafford Exit
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Sancho is still searching for a fresh opportunity after departing Old Trafford upon the expiry of his contract. Al Rayyan, eight-time Qatari champions, are hoping to take advantage of the winger's circumstances and pull off a major coup for the club. The Doha-based side aims to reclaim the Qatar Stars League title for the first time since 2016.
Sancho's departure from United was confirmed earlier this summer, ending a five-year association with the club. The Red Devils had secured his signature in a significant deal with Borussia Dortmund in 2021, following a transfer saga that dragged on for more than a year. His time at Old Trafford soured after a very public falling-out with then-manager Erik ten Hag, which led to a four-month banishment and individual training away from the first team.
Loan Spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa
After leaving United, Sancho spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Chelsea, where he helped the club win the UEFA Conference League. He then moved to Aston Villa for the 2025-26 campaign, playing a role in their Europa League triumph. However, he was predominantly used as a substitute at both Premier League clubs, struggling to cement a regular starting position.
Villa head coach Unai Emery had previously expressed openness to signing Sancho permanently. He said: "Not yet, but he is a fantastic player. Hopefully he can help us by increasing his qualities in our structure like he is doing. He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here. If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved in the interest for him."
However, Villa ultimately opted to sign Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan from Chelsea instead, leaving Sancho to continue his search for a new club.
Al Rayyan's Ambitions and Sancho's Career Resurgence
The reported proposal from Al Rayyan presents an opportunity for Sancho to revitalise his career in the Middle East. The Qatar Stars League may not boast the household names of the Saudi Pro League, but it features former stars such as Pablo Sarabia, Krzysztof Piatek, and Roberto Firmino. Al Rayyan also has Fulham legend Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored five goals in 11 appearances after joining last September.
Sancho has remained silent on social media since his exit from United was announced. His latest post celebrated the Europa League triumph with Villa. The 23-time England international has been without a club since his loan stint with Villa ended.
Potential Move to Qatar
A switch to Al Rayyan would see Sancho join a club that finished third in the Qatar Stars League last season, securing a spot in the AFC Champions League Two, the Asian Football Confederation's second-tier tournament. The Qatari season typically runs from August to mid-April, meaning Al Rayyan may be eager to complete a deal swiftly to integrate Sancho into their squad before the new campaign kicks off.
Sancho's move to Qatar could mark a new chapter for the winger, who once shone at Borussia Dortmund before his high-profile transfer to Manchester United. The lucrative offer from Al Rayyan is seen as a potential game-changer for the player, allowing him to rebuild his career away from the intense scrutiny of European football.
