A man deliberately drove his car over a woman on her own driveway, leaving her trapped underneath as her children watched in terror from the house. Morgan Davison, 27, was sentenced to 30 months in prison at Newport Crown Court on Friday for the attack, which left the victim with fractured ribs and severe psychological trauma.
The Incident
On September 26, 2024, Davison went to the victim's home in Cardiff after a dispute with her husband over the sale of a car engine worth £1,000. The husband was not present, and the victim confronted Davison on her doorstep. The court heard that Davison became 'bullying and aggressive,' raising his voice to intimidate her. He struck a Ring doorbell camera in a rage, prompting the victim to pick up a golf club to defend herself. Davison filmed her and mocked her laughter as she attempted to photograph his Volkswagen Taigo's number plate.
In response, Davison threatened to kill the victim and got into his car. He first reversed into her knee, then again as she placed her hands on the car. After revving the engine, he reversed at higher speed, hitting her harder and sending her flying five feet. He then reversed back until the car was on top of her, as her children screamed through the window.
Injuries and Aftermath
The victim suffered fractured ribs and injuries to her torso, arms, and legs. She described the pain as 'worse than childbirth.' Firefighters had to rescue her from under the car. She was hospitalized for two days, treated for rib fractures and a haematoma to her head.
In her victim personal statement, she said: 'He hit me with his vehicle, leaving me trapped underneath for 90 minutes... It has affected me terribly in both the physical and mental side of things. I haven't left my home for a significant period over a fear of leaving the house.' She also noted that the muscles in her right hand have wasted away due to the incident.
Court Proceedings
Davison, of Ynys y Mond Road, Alltwen, Pontardawe, denied assault, claiming he panicked because he feared for his life. However, he was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and dangerous driving. The court noted his 11 previous convictions.
In mitigation, his lawyer Hywel Davies argued that Davison's partner and two children would be made homeless if he was imprisoned, and his employee would lose his job. Judge Eugene Egan called the evidence 'overwhelming' and said: 'It's a miracle the injuries did not go beyond actual bodily harm. You intended to teach her a lesson that day.'
Davison was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment and disqualified from driving for three years and three months.
