Midland Mother Sentenced to Prison for Reckless Driving Incident

A Staffordshire mother has been handed a custodial sentence after a horrifying high-speed crash that left multiple children injured. Faye Dawson, aged 50, was under the influence of alcohol and cannabis while driving her Vauxhall Corsa at speeds reaching 80mph with five young passengers onboard.

Disturbing Details of the Crash Emerge in Court

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard how Dawson accelerated away at what was described as "an incredibly high speed" during the incident in March 2025. She failed to reduce speed at roundabouts, veered onto the wrong side of the road, and narrowly avoided parked vehicles in residential areas despite desperate pleas from the terrified children to slow down.

Shocking CCTV footage captured Dawson boasting about her driving abilities in profane terms, declaring "If you die I am not responsible" to her passengers. She explicitly stated she had consumed alcohol and cannabis, claiming this made her "even more dangerous" behind the wheel.

Children Suffer Physical and Psychological Trauma

Four children aged 14 and 15 sustained injuries in the crash, with one hospitalized suffering a fractured spine. Victim statements revealed the profound psychological impact, with one girl describing feeling "trapped and terrified" during the ordeal.

The young victim stated: "I genuinely believed I was going to die. I have suffered flashbacks and panic attacks. I was shaking uncontrollably. I had to live with back pain for six months." Another child reported ongoing anxiety in vehicles and persistent nightmares following the traumatic experience.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Dawson, of Nicholson Road in Cheadle, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving charges. Defence solicitor Robert Holt explained that his client had become a recluse following the incident, with her post-traumatic stress disorder worsening as a result.

Judge Richard McConaghy delivered a stern rebuke during sentencing, noting Dawson's "appalling arrogance" and emphasizing that her driving was impaired by both alcohol and drugs. He remarked it was "a miracle that you did not kill somebody" given the circumstances.

The 50-year-old received a 14-month custodial sentence along with a 55-month driving ban. Judge McConaghy concluded that the offending was so serious that only immediate custody represented an appropriate response, despite acknowledging Dawson's genuine remorse for her actions.
