A murder investigation has been launched after a young man was stabbed to death in Bury moments before the arrival of the New Year.

Emergency Call Minutes Before Midnight

Greater Manchester Police were called to an address on Tarn Drive in Bury at approximately 11.55pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025. The call reported a disturbance at the location.

Officers and emergency medics rushed to the scene, where they discovered a man in his 20s suffering from serious stab wounds. Despite the immediate efforts of paramedics, the victim's injuries proved fatal. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two Arrests Made in Connection

In a swift development following the incident, police have arrested two individuals. A man and a woman, both in their 20s, have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody for questioning as the investigation continues.

A spokesperson for GMP confirmed the details and reiterated the force's commitment to the inquiry. "Investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson stated.

Community Leaders Appeal for Calm

Local councillor Tamoor Tariq, who represents the Redvales ward on Bury Council, addressed the tragic event. He confirmed that authorities are working closely together following the "very serious incident".

"I want to reassure all local residents this is an isolated incident and there is no reason to assume there is a threat to the wider area," Cllr Tariq said. He asked that the police be given the space to conduct their vital work and extended the community's thoughts to those affected.
