Black Country Park Incidents: Parents Fear for Safety After Abduction and Threat
Parents Fear Safety After Black Country Park Incidents

Parents in the Black Country say they feel it is 'not safe anywhere' following two 'absolutely terrifying' incidents at parks just four miles apart. The events, which occurred within two days, have sparked widespread concern among local families.

Abduction at Haden Hill Park

The first incident took place at Haden Hill Park in Cradley Heath shortly before 3.45pm on Thursday, June 18. A four-year-old boy was abducted while playing near the bowling green as his mother tended to a baby. The youngster went missing for several minutes before being found in nearby woodland. The suspect is described as being in his late teens, black, short in height, with curled hair, and was clean shaven wearing black clothing.

Suspicious Man at Stevens Park

The following day, at around 5.55pm on Friday, June 19, a seven-year-old boy was approached by a 'suspicious man' in Stevens Park, off Thorns Road, Quarry Bank. The man, thought to be in his late teens or early 20s, asked the child if he wanted to ride his bike. When the boy refused, the offender threatened him. The boy was not physically harmed and later reported the incident. The suspect is described as mixed race with dark brown afro style hair, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, and riding a dark blue bike.

Police Investigation and Appeal

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: 'We’re potentially linking the two incidents but we are keeping an open mind. We understand how concerning incidents of this nature can be and we’re working tirelessly on the investigation and to establish the exact circumstances.' Police are studying CCTV from both locations and appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have mobile phone footage from the parks at the time. Extra officers have been deployed to both parks.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting log numbers 4707-190626 or 3966-180626. Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111. Mobile phone or dash cam footage can be submitted to police online.

Public Reaction

Reacting on Facebook, one user described the incidents as 'absolutely terrifying' and warned parents to 'watch your children closely, put away your phones! Just not safe anywhere anymore.' Another said: 'Need to be careful with the kids at parks with this going on.' A third comment read: 'This is why I won't take my kids to parks alone.' One parent added: 'It's getting worse around here. Nowhere is going to be safe to go soon. Be too scared to let the kids out of arms reach, no matter the age, at this rate.'
