A police dog named Seth has demonstrated exceptional tracking skills by locating a suspect who was hiding inside a wheelie bin following a high-speed car chase in Nottingham.
The Chase and Escape
The incident began in the early hours of Wednesday morning when officers from Nottinghamshire Police grew suspicious of a vehicle at a petrol station in Wollaton. As they attempted to stop the car, the driver suddenly accelerated away, initiating a high-speed pursuit.
The chase concluded when the driver crashed into a driveway on Central Avenue. Two individuals fled the scene on foot. One suspect was quickly apprehended nearby, but the second managed to escape after a brief pursuit by PD Seth, a four-year-old Belgian Malinois.
Seth's Determined Search
Despite the suspect initially breaking free and vanishing into the darkness, PD Seth, handled by his dedicated officer, persisted with the search. The dog led his handler to a front garden on nearby Boundary Road.
His handler noticed Seth showing a keen interest in a row of wheelie bins. Upon lifting the lid, the officer discovered the 33-year-old man standing inside the bin. The officer was heard shouting a warning before radioing colleagues to confirm the arrest with the words: "I've got him, he's in a bin."
Arrests and Charges
The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a string of offences, including dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop, and possessing an offensive weapon. A second man, aged 30, was also apprehended on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and a Class A drug.
A search of the vehicle revealed a knuckle duster and a small quantity of suspected Class A drugs. Both individuals were subsequently released on bail pending further investigation.
PC James Boden of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the team effort, while Sergeant Nicholas Dachtler from the force's dog section praised PD Seth's admirable determination and exceptional tracking abilities. The force also noted that Seth, who was donated by a member of the public and rescued by a charity, has been enjoying a new lease of life since being licensed in December 2023.
