West Midlands Police have issued a public appeal for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Birmingham city centre, releasing a CCTV image of a man they wish to trace.
The incident occurred on New Street, one of the city's busiest thoroughfares, at approximately 5pm on Friday, April 2. Since the assault, officers have been conducting extensive enquiries to identify the individual involved.
Police Release CCTV Image
Nearly three months later, on Sunday, June 28, the force published a CCTV image on its website and social media channels, urging anyone who recognises the man to come forward. The appeal states: "We want to speak to this man after a woman was sexually assaulted in Birmingham city centre. It happened on New Street at around 5pm on 2 April and we've been carrying out enquiries to identify who was involved."
How to Provide Information
Members of the public can contact the police via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website, or by calling 101, quoting reference number 20/200554/26. The force has not disclosed further details about the victim or the nature of the assault, but emphasises that any information, no matter how small, could be crucial to the investigation.
This appeal follows a separate incident earlier in the week, where a woman's body was recovered from water at Sandwell Valley Country Park, prompting messages of "thoughts and prayers" from the community.
