A primary school pupil was found with a knife on school grounds in the Midlands, prompting a police response. The incident occurred at Heron Cross Primary School in Stoke-on-Trent, where staff discovered a small bladed pocket knife in the child's bag. Staffordshire Police were called to the scene, and the school confirmed that 'relevant agencies' were also contacted.
Second Knife Incident in the Area
This is the second time in recent months that a child has been caught with a knife in the area, according to StokeonTrentLive. In May, police were dispatched to Sandon Primary Academy in Meir after a youngster brought a kitchen knife to school. On that occasion, officers spoke with the child's parents.
School's Response
Heron Cross headteacher Gemma Willdigg wrote to parents on Wednesday, June 10, to reassure them that the knife was confiscated immediately after being found. The letter stated: 'A prohibited item has been brought into school by a pupil. As soon as staff were made aware, the item, which was a small bladed pocket knife, was immediately confiscated and school procedures were followed. The item was recovered from a pupil's bag where it had remained until staff were alerted. The police and relevant agencies have attended school and the item has been seized.'
Parents were assured that the matter is being handled appropriately, and the school is cooperating with authorities to ensure the safety of all students.
