A man from Sandwell has admitted to carrying out two appalling attacks on a woman within a single day in Staffordshire, before attempting to flee from police officers. Asa McGahan, aged 26, launched the assaults in October 2024, leaving the victim with significant physical harm.
Violent Incidents Within 24 Hours
The first assault occurred at a property in Staffordshire, after which McGahan left the scene. However, he returned later the same day to commit a second, more violent attack. Upon re-entering the property, he punched the woman, leading to a physical altercation that lasted several minutes until police arrived.
Escape and Arrest
When officers informed McGahan he was under arrest, he fled into nearby woodland in an attempt to evade capture. Staffordshire Police officers subsequently tracked him down, ensuring he was taken into custody. This led to him pleading guilty to multiple charges in court.
Court Proceedings and Police Response
McGahan has entered guilty pleas to:
- Two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm
- One count of escape from lawful custody
He has been remanded ahead of his sentencing, scheduled for April 1 at Stafford Crown Court. Detective Constable Reece Hingley, from Staffordshire Police's criminal investigations department, commented on the case.
"The physical abuse that McGahan inflicted on the survivor in this case was appalling, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to secure this outcome for her," said DC Hingley. "We will continue to take robust action against those responsible for high-harm offences in Staffordshire and protect those affected by these crimes."
Community Safety Implications
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to address violent crimes and ensure community safety. The swift police response and successful prosecution underscore the importance of reporting such offences and the judicial system's role in delivering justice for victims.
