Birmingham Shopkeeper, 67, Brutally Attacked While Helping Neighbouring Tenant

A 67-year-old shopkeeper in Birmingham was viciously assaulted and robbed as he attempted to assist a neighbouring business tenant during a violent altercation. The shocking incident occurred on Queens Head Road in Handsworth shortly after midday on Saturday, April 4.

Violent Confrontation Over Unpaid Bill

The attack unfolded when a man at a local shop refused to pay for services and was asked to leave by staff members. When he declined to depart, a woman from the shop alerted the neighbouring business owner, who also serves as her landlord.

The elderly shopkeeper responded to the call for help but was met with immediate violence. As he approached the premises, the assailant emerged and punched him directly in the face, causing significant facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

During the physical confrontation, the victim's iPhone fell from his pocket. The attacker seized the opportunity to steal the device before fleeing the scene on foot.

Family's Distress Over 'Awful' CCTV Footage

The victim's daughter, who requested anonymity, described the incident as a "random attack" that has left the family deeply shaken. She revealed that her father has operated his business in the area for more than four decades.

"I have seen the CCTV and it's awful, it's horrendous to watch," she stated. "My dad gets a few punches in in self-defence – but he's 67. The man then tries to get something out of his bag. My dad then says 'just leave me alone'."

She added that the attacker was later spotted running through Handsworth Park and has been seen walking with a dog along Soho Road since the assault.

Longtime Business Owner Expresses Growing Concerns

The victim, who owns a shop off Soho Road and serves as landlord to the adjacent business, is now experiencing heightened anxiety about safety in the community he has served for generations.

"My dad is concerned for his tenants, concerned for his business and himself," his daughter explained. "It's just scary. We grew up in the area. He said it's getting worse and worse."

Police Investigation Underway
