Valley Primary School in Solihull has issued a warning to parents after reports of a suspicious man waiting at the school gates, staring inappropriately at children and asking to hug them. The incident occurred at the school's infant and nursery site on Fallowfield Road.
Police Alert
The school received an alert from West Midlands Police on Thursday morning (May 21) about a man described as Asian, around 50 years old, wearing a dark blue jacket and trousers. He was reportedly waiting for children at the end of the school day, targeting those walking between the Fallowfield Road site and the junior site on Old Lode Lane.
Headteacher's Response
Headteacher Susan Milewski urged parents to be 'extra vigilant' when collecting their children. In an email to parents, she stated that children would only be released to individuals on the contact list or those with the child's password. As a precaution, the school closed its gully on Thursday and Friday, as police believe the suspect may be targeting that area.
Year 6 pupils, who normally walk home alone, were advised to be collected by parents where possible. The school asked parents to use the main gates on Fallowfield Road for collection.
Police Investigation
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: 'We received reports of a man acting suspiciously around Fallowfield Road, Elmdon. Officers carried out patrols and searches of the area but have not seen anyone matching the description.' Police have asked anyone who sees the man to call 999 immediately.
Community Concern
The incident has sparked concern among parents and the local community. The school is working closely with police to ensure the safety of its pupils. Parents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
