Two individuals, including a woman from Birmingham, have been apprehended on suspicion of drug dealing following a targeted vehicle stop in Tamworth. The incident unfolded on Friday, January 30, when officers from Staffordshire Police conducted a proactive operation in the area.
Vehicle Stop and Discovery of Drugs
At approximately 11.35am, police officers stopped a silver Jaguar on Kettlebrook Road, located to the south of Tamworth town centre. The vehicle was subjected to a thorough search, which revealed a significant stash of illicit substances concealed in an unusual manner.
Authorities discovered a number of clip-seal bags containing what is believed to be Class A drugs. These items were found hidden inside a red sock with a striped pattern, which was concealed within the car. In addition to the drugs, officers also seized a quantity of cash and multiple mobile phones during the search.
Arrests and Charges
A 25-year-old woman from Birmingham and a 22-year-old man from Essex were promptly arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Both individuals were taken into police custody, where they are currently being questioned by investigating officers.
The male suspect faces additional charges related to motoring offences. He has been dealt with for driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and for operating the vehicle without valid insurance. As a result of these infractions, the silver Jaguar was subsequently seized by police authorities.
Police Statement and Ongoing Investigation
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police provided details of the operation, stating: "On Friday, January 30, at around 11.36am, officers stopped a silver Jaguar on Kettlebrook Road, Tamworth. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a number of clip seal bags containing class A drugs were found inside a red sock hidden within the vehicle. Cash and mobile phones were also found."
The spokesperson continued: "A 22-year-old male, from Essex, and a 25-year-old female, from Birmingham, were arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs. Both have been remanded into custody. In addition to this, the male was also dealt with for driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance. The vehicle was subsequently seized."
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related activities in the region. The discovery of Class A substances, along with associated evidence such as cash and communication devices, suggests potential involvement in organised drug distribution networks.
Both suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues, with police working to establish the full extent of their alleged involvement in drug dealing operations. The seizure of the vehicle and the additional motoring charges against the male suspect demonstrate the comprehensive approach taken by authorities in addressing both the primary drug offences and related criminal activities.
