Police in Leicester have made an arrest following a violent incident in a city park that left two elderly men requiring hospital treatment. The attack, which involved a metal pole as a weapon, occurred in the early hours of a Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Violent Early Morning Assault in Castle Gardens
Emergency services were called to Castle Gardens in Leicester at approximately 2am on Sunday, January 18, after paramedics discovered two injured men. Upon arrival, police found both victims, who are in their sixties, receiving medical attention from ambulance crews. The men reported that they had been assaulted and attacked with a metal pole, with the alleged incident taking place inside a hut within the park between midnight and 2am.
Ongoing Police Investigation and Arrest
Following extensive enquiries, Leicestershire Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Thursday, January 22, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. The teenager was subsequently released on bail as investigations continue. Both assault victims were transported to hospital for treatment, with one man having since been discharged while the other remains under medical care.
