Teenager Faces Charges After Knife and Drug Discovery in Shirley
A teenage bike rider has been charged with knife and drug offences following an incident in Stratford Road, Shirley, over the weekend. The events unfolded on Saturday, February 14, when police were alerted to reports of a weapon being seen among a group on bikes.
Police Response and Arrest Details
Officers from West Midlands Police's Project Guardian team, which focuses on tackling youth violence and knife crime, were on patrol in Shirley Park at the time. They responded to the alert on Stratford Road shortly before 4pm. According to police, one rider attempted to flee the scene but crashed into a stationary vehicle, leading to his detention.
During a search, authorities recovered a knife and a quantity of cannabis. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Leo Eggington from Ledbury Close in Redditch, was subsequently charged with possessing an offensive weapon, possessing Class B drugs, and criminal damage.
