With summer approaching, police noted an increase in robberies in open spaces and offered safety tips: avoid wearing headphones that restrict hearing, trust your instincts and move to busier areas if you feel unsafe, plan your route and avoid poorly lit streets, inform someone of your whereabouts and expected return time, carry bags securely with the strap across your body and fasteners facing you, and keep wallets and phones out of sight and not in back pockets.
Anyone with information or who has been a victim of theft can report online or call 101.
