Police statement
West Midlands Police said: 'We’re investigating after a 15-year-old boy was left with potentially life-changing injuries after being stabbed in Birmingham. The teenager was taken to hospital following the attack. He remains in hospital today but is in a stable condition. The boy was in a vehicle when he was attacked by a group. We believe the incident was targeted and no wider threat to the community.'
West Midlands Ambulance Service added: 'We were called to reports of a stabbing on Appledorne Gardens at 8.15pm and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Crews found a teenage boy with serious injuries and conveyed him under emergency driving conditions to hospital.'
Community reaction
Shard End Councillor Alan Feeny expressed concern: 'It is tragic to hear of yet another stabbing in the area. The epidemic of knife crime in our city and nationwide must be taken more seriously before another young life is lost. Many are only carrying knives because others are, and are more likely to be injured by a knife, not protected by carrying one. I wish the victim a swift recovery and hope others carrying knives take this as a wake-up call.'
Appeal for witnesses
Police are urging anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage of the attack to come forward. They stated: 'We’re appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, including mobile phone or dash cam footage, to contact us on 101 quoting log number 4564 of 31 May. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. We will have extra officers in the area today and over the coming days to offer reassurance to the community.'
