Counter-terrorism officers from West Midlands Police have made a series of significant arrests in Coventry, detaining three men on suspicion of terrorism-related offences.
Details of the Arrests
The police operation took place on Wednesday night, with officers executing warrants at multiple addresses across the city. Two 18-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of disseminating terrorism material. In a separate but connected development, a 24-year-old man was arrested for the preparation of a terrorism act.
Additionally, a fourth individual, a 58-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence unrelated to the terrorism investigation. All four men were taken to a police station within the West Midlands region for questioning.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The police investigation is continuing at a rapid pace. All four addresses linked to the arrests are currently being searched by specialist officers.
Forensic teams are expected to be on site as police gather evidence. The men remain in custody for interviews as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Public Reassurance and Vigilance
In a statement, West Midlands Police reiterated its commitment to public safety. The force also reminded the public of the importance of the 'Action Counters Terrorism' (ACT) campaign.
They urge anyone who sees or hears something that doesn't seem right to trust their instincts and report it in confidence at the official government website, gov.uk/ACT. Vigilance from the public plays a crucial role in preventing terrorism and keeping communities safe.
