Three Men Sentenced After Their Dangerous Dogs Attack Innocent Victims
Three men from the West Midlands have faced legal consequences after their dogs viciously attacked innocent people while dangerously out of control. The incidents, which resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, highlight serious concerns about public safety and responsible pet ownership.
James Harrison Trimble-Pettit: XL Bully Attack Leads to Death
James Harrison Trimble-Pettit, 33, of Fradley in Lichfield, has been jailed for five years after his two XL Bully dogs attacked and killed 52-year-old Ian Price. The incident occurred on September 14, 2023, in Main Street, Stonnall, when the dogs, named Via and Ares, escaped from Trimble-Pettit's home.
Mr. Price, who lived across the road, attempted to get the dogs back into the address but suffered catastrophic injuries in what was described as a prolonged and vicious attack. Despite efforts by passers-by to intervene, he was taken to hospital in critical condition and died later that day.
Trimble-Pettit claimed he had locked the dogs inside before leaving for work and blamed the housing association for insecure premises. However, investigations found no faults with the windows or doors. One dog died during the incident, and the other was euthanized by a vet.
Trimble-Pettit pleaded guilty to two counts of being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control causing death. He has been banned from owning a dog indefinitely.
Patrick Davy: Belgian Malinois Causes Severe Injury
Patrick Davy, 29, of Northfield, pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury after his Belgian Malinois, named Bigman, attacked Angus Campbell. The dog escaped through loose fencing at Davy's home on November 2 last year, biting Mr. Campbell on Merritts Brook Lane.
Mr. Campbell was left crawling on the floor, trying to reach safety inside a One Stop shop. He suffered a significant injury, with a chunk of flesh taken out of his calf. Davy is awaiting sentencing on April 17 and has been granted unconditional bail. Bigman could be destroyed as a result of the attack.
Ezaan Hussain: Dutch Shepherd Attacks Children in Garden
Ezaan Hussain, 22, pleaded guilty to two charges of being the owner of a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control. His Dutch Shepherd, Zeus, scaled an 8ft fence and attacked two girls in their garden on Chaplin Road, Normacot, on February 16, 2024.
The victims were left hysterical, with one suffering a cut to her eyebrow, a bite on her thigh, three puncture wounds, and a graze on her back. The other sustained puncture wounds to the left side of her back, despite wearing a thick coat. Both required hospital treatment.
Hussain, who is already serving a 20-year and 353-day sentence for murder, was sentenced to 14 months in prison to run concurrently with his life term. He has been disqualified from owning a dog for life, and a destruction order was issued for Zeus, whose current whereabouts are unknown.
These cases underscore the critical importance of responsible dog ownership and the severe consequences when pets are not properly controlled. Authorities continue to emphasize the need for vigilance to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
