Two Arrested in Selly Oak After Man Found Under Bed

Two men have been arrested in a Birmingham suburb in connection with vehicle crime, following a police operation that involved reviewing hours of CCTV footage.

Arrest on Weoley Avenue

The first suspect was spotted by officers on patrol along Weoley Avenue in Selly Oak on April 25. He was seen running from a vehicle and was detained after a foot chase. Nearby, police recovered several stolen items along with two screwdrivers.

Second Man Found Under Bed

Further searches were conducted at a linked address, where officers discovered a second man hiding under a bed. He was also taken into custody.

The two men, aged 43 and 39, remain in custody today (April 26) on suspicion of taking from a motor vehicle, fraud, and vehicle interference.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Operation Skybridge officers in Birmingham are continuing to target vehicle crime and have made two arrests in Selly Oak.

"The proactive team were on patrol around the Weoley Avenue area yesterday when they spotted a man running away from a vehicle.

"Following a foot chase, the man was detained and several stolen items were then recovered nearby, alongside two screwdrivers.

"Further searches were carried out at a linked address, where a second man was found under a bed.

"Based on an ongoing Skybridge investigation, which has included hours of CCTV analysis and evidence gathering, the man was also detained.

"This morning, two men aged 43 and 39 are both in custody having been arrested on suspicion of taking from a motor vehicle, fraud, and vehicle interference."

Skybridge is a Birmingham proactive crime-fighting team focused on tackling offences like theft, burglary, robbery, and vehicle crime.

Police urge anyone with information about suspicious activity to call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
