Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed the discovery of two bodies in what they are treating as a suspected murder-suicide, bringing a tragic end to their search for a missing pensioner.
Discovery of the Bodies
The investigation began when Brian Wright, 82, was reported missing on Thursday, November 20. Following intelligence that he was deceased, search teams were deployed to the Langford area on Saturday, November 22.
A body was discovered in a field near Danethorpe Lane on Tuesday, November 25, with recovery work completed the following day. While formal identification is pending, police believe the body to be that of Brian Wright and have informed his next of kin.
A Second Tragic Find
This discovery came just four days after police found another body. The body of a 52-year-old man was located in an outbuilding off the A1133 in Langford. He is believed to be Brian Wright's son, Charles Wright, though formal identification is also awaited for him.
In an official statement, the force confirmed that the matter is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide. They emphasised that detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Police Statement and Ongoing Support
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow described the situation as a 'deeply tragic case'. She stated, 'We are continuing to support family members at this extremely difficult time and ask the media and public to respect their privacy.'
DCI Burrow also thanked the public for sharing appeals to locate Brian Wright and praised the professionalism of the search teams. Post-mortem examinations and formal identifications will be carried out in due course, with a file being prepared for the coroner.
The police have confirmed that this incident is not connected to a separate event on Saturday where two men were struck by a car on Gainsborough Road in Winthorpe.
