Brutal Assault Days Before Christmas

A man was subjected to a horrific attack with a steel claw hammer and a wooden stick after being lured into a home in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, just hours before Christmas Eve. The victim suffered a broken arm, broken nose, broken finger, head wounds, and extensive bruising during the assault on December 23, 2025.

James Rogers, 41, of Ball Green, and Kaayn Beech, 36, of Tunstall, carried out the attack after Rogers invited the victim into the address. Following the beating, the assailants stole £500 in cash, a wallet, a watch, a mobile phone, and a coat from the victim.

Arrests and Court Proceedings

Staffordshire Police arrested both men immediately after the crime was reported. During police interviews, both Rogers and Beech answered no comment to all questions.

Beech later pleaded guilty to Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent on the first day of his scheduled trial. Additional charges of robbery and theft from the person were ordered to remain on file. Rogers denied the offence but was found guilty by a jury after a trial.

Sentences Handed Down

The pair were sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, July 3, 2026. Beech received a four-year prison sentence, while Rogers was jailed for four years and two months.

Detective Constable Olivia May of Staffordshire Police commented: "This was a particularly violent incident which left the victim requiring treatment in A&E. I’m pleased we’ve been able to build the evidence needed to secure these sentences against Rogers and Beech, and I hope this shows the local community that we are determined to act robustly against those responsible for these offences across the city."

The victim, who required hospital treatment, has been left with lasting physical and psychological injuries from the attack.
