Amir Khan, 25, has been found guilty of stabbing his wife with such force that the weapon penetrated her brain, leaving her in a coma. The attack occurred at their home on Villa Road in Lozells, Birmingham, on November 1 last year.
False Claim of a Fall
Khan initially claimed that his wife, Madia Bano, also 25, had fallen at their residence. However, a CT scan at the hospital revealed a suspected stab wound to her head.
Irreversible Brain Damage
Prosecutor Sally Howes KC stated that parts of Ms Bano's brain are now dead, and her injuries typically result in a condition known as Locked-in plus syndrome. Howes emphasized that the head injury caused irreversible and permanent brain damage, which is medically life-threatening and life-changing, with a significantly increased risk of early death.
Ms Bano remains in a coma to this day. The implement used in the attack has never been recovered.
Legal Proceedings
Khan, who is an illegal overstayer in the United Kingdom, was found guilty on May 5 at Birmingham Crown Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13. The court heard that his motive remains unclear.
The case highlights the severity of domestic violence and the critical role of medical imaging in uncovering the truth behind such incidents.
