Married At First Sight Australia's Bec Zacharia has finally revealed the truth behind her stunning $3 million Adelaide house, which left viewers and her on-screen husband Danny Hewitt in awe during Homestay Week.
Before the episode aired, Bec was excited to show Danny her home and the city she loves, hoping he would consider moving there. However, the lavish property in a prime location sparked questions about how she could afford such a home.
During a tour, Danny exclaimed: "Jesus the size of this room. This is a nice bedroom." But the backstory is more complex than it appeared.
The Truth Behind the House
Speaking on the 'MAFS Funny' podcast, Bec explained to host Joshua Fox that the house was actually given to her. When asked how she could afford a $3 million home with a $96,000 mortgage, she replied: "I got it given to me. I've been paying the mortgage for the past three years. But yes, correct - it was given to me."
The host admitted this context was crucial for viewers, and Bec agreed, sharing: "I don't control what's shown and what's not. In that moment, yep, it looked like I was bragging and stuff, but actually I was pissed off."
Financial Struggles Revealed
Bec further opened up about her financial situation: "I will never be able to buy a house as a single woman. You're more ahead in life than I am and ever would be. I can't save money, I've earned like so much money in my life and I have nothing to show for it really."
The podcast host highlighted the importance of this conversation, as many viewers felt inadequate after watching Homestays, where other brides like Alissa Fay belittled her husband for renting and Gia Fleur criticised Scott McCristal's home.
Unemployment and New Beginnings
At the time of the podcast, Bec was unemployed. She admitted: "I mean, it's hard. Like I need a job you know - like I need to work. But right now my face is everywhere and it's negative." She expressed desperation, saying: "Like I'll fucking stack shelves if I have to."
However, Bec has since secured a new job and plans to use her experiences from the show to help others.
