Two young boys tragically lost their lives in a house fire that broke out on Friday night, April 24, in Wolverhampton. The victims, aged one and three, were rescued from the property on Mason Street by firefighters but were pronounced dead shortly after receiving advanced life support at the scene.
Emergency services arrived at approximately 8:30 PM to find a woman and two other children already outside the house. Fire crews from Bilston, West Bromwich, and Bloxwich Fire Stations responded, with six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entering the building to rescue the children.
Arrest Made
West Midlands Police have arrested a woman in her 30s on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children. She remains in custody as of Saturday afternoon. Detective are continuing their inquiries, working alongside fire service investigators to determine the cause of the blaze.
Ambulance Response
West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances, three paramedic officers, HART paramedics, a MERIT trauma team, and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Despite rapid medical intervention, both children were confirmed dead at the scene.
Police Statement
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We have detained a woman following a fatal house fire in Wolverhampton yesterday evening. Tragically two boys aged one and three were pronounced dead at the scene. Their family is being supported by our specialist officers at this most awful time."
Officers are conducting door-to-door inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. A cordon remains in place on Mason Street, and police have thanked local residents for their patience.
