Two Charged with Murder of Toddler in Leicester

Two individuals have been formally charged with murder following the tragic death of a toddler in Leicester over two years ago. Omiel Gordon, aged 35, of Butterwick Drive, Beaumont Leys, and Shalom Morgan, aged 23, of Morledge Street, Leicester city centre, face charges related to the death of two-year-old Tobias-John Doyle.

Details of the Incident

Emergency services were called to an address on Mulberry Avenue, Braunstone Frith, on November 29, 2023. Tobias was rushed to hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries on December 2, 2023. Both Gordon and Morgan were initially arrested shortly after the toddler's hospital admission.

Additional Charges

In addition to murder, both defendants have been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and with child cruelty. The charges follow a complex investigation conducted by Leicestershire Police, during which family liaison officers have provided ongoing support to the boy's father.

Court Appearance

The pair were charged on Monday morning, April 27, and are scheduled to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court later that afternoon. Police have urged the public to refrain from speculation or publishing material that could prejudice the ongoing court proceedings.

Community Impact

Local officers will increase patrols in the affected areas to provide reassurance to residents. Detective Inspector Kevin Hames, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated: "My thoughts very much remain with Tobias and everyone who is affected by his extremely sad death. I am aware of the impact this news today will have in the community and we will have officers in the areas affected to help in offering reassurance to you - please do speak with them if you have any concerns."

Investigation Progress

DI Hames added: "This is a complex investigation and I do want to thank those who have provided support during this time. As court proceedings are now active, we do ask that people do not speculate and take care with any publication made so as to not prejudice these court proceedings."

Leicestershire Police continue to encourage anyone with concerns or information to approach officers conducting patrols in the neighbourhood.
