Worcestershire Pensioners to Benefit from £300 Cost of Living Payments

The Labour Party government has expanded the Household Support Fund (HSF), administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), to provide crucial financial assistance to vulnerable residents across the UK. Worcestershire Council is among the local authorities set to distribute these funds, targeting those most affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Eligibility Criteria for the Household Support Fund

To qualify for the support, applicants must be permanent residents of Worcestershire with a combined household income not exceeding £31,000 before tax. Additionally, households must have no savings and include at least one individual with a vulnerability, such as a disability, long-term health condition, or unmanageable debt. The scheme is designed to assist a broad range of groups, including:

  • Families with children of all ages
  • Pensioners
  • Unpaid carers
  • Care leavers
  • People with disabilities

Payment Details and Application Process

Eligible households can receive up to £300, with specific allocations based on composition. Households with one adult or a couple of pensionable age are entitled to £300, as are those with adults aged between 18 and 66. Payments will be made through various methods depending on energy billing:

  • Direct bank transfers to energy suppliers
  • Online portal credits to energy accounts
  • Post Office vouchers for pre-payment top-ups

It is important to note that pre-payment meter vouchers can only be redeemed as credit directly onto keys or cards and cannot be exchanged for cash. For those who have already started receiving pension credit, a one-off payment should have been issued, with new recipients expecting vouchers in the coming weeks without the need to apply.

How to Submit Evidence for Applications

Applicants must provide evidence to support their claims. Digital evidence can be emailed to whsf7@actonenergy.org.uk, while paper evidence should be posted to: Act on Energy, Unit 2, Lauriston Business Park, Salford Priors, Warwickshire WR11 8SN. All applications received are currently being processed, and residents are urged to ensure they have submitted all required documentation and forms to avoid delays.

This initiative underscores the government's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations during challenging economic times, with Worcestershire residents poised to gain significant relief from the expanded Household Support Fund.
