Lynda Morton, a 71-year-old resident of Stapleford, has been honoured with the Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care Community Hero Award for her consistent acts of kindness. The award, presented by the company's Stapleford branch on Derby Road, came with a luxury afternoon tea hamper.
A Loyal Customer and Beloved Presence
A customer for over 15 years, Morton has become a familiar and cherished figure at the branch. Her warmth, genuine interest in others, and cheerful nature have made her a favourite among staff.
Morton often assists with tea and coffee at the Stapleford Wives Club held at the Methodist Church and remains a regular sight in the town centre. She frequently visits the branch to check on each team member, brightening their day with her positivity.
Extending Care Beyond the Branch
Her compassion reaches beyond the opticians. Morton makes weekly visits to an elderly friend who requires extra support and a familiar face. Additionally, she has been caring for her husband, Derek, as he recovers after a recent hospital stay.
Branch manager Stephanie Isaacs praised Morton's resilience: "Lynda is a beacon of light. Despite facing her own challenges recently - including a fall that left her with a big lump on her head and a black eye - she never stops looking after others. She always lifts our spirits when she visits, arriving with a smile and ready for a much-welcomed chat. Lynda reminds us all that community spirit is built on small, meaningful acts. We are delighted that we could give her something back through our Community Hero initiative."
A Surprise Recognition
Morton expressed her gratitude: "Winning this award was such a wonderful surprise - it brought a tear to my eye. It's been a tough time lately, so it's such a lovely thing to happen, and the Stapleford Scrivens team truly made me feel like a queen."
