A motorcyclist who took part in a poignant tribute at a teenager's funeral has died in a road collision just moments later.
A Tragic Collision on the Journey Home
Chris Bailey was one of dozens of bikers from the Valley Commandos Powys chapter who formed an honour guard on Friday, December 19. They rode in convoy to pay their respects at the funeral of 14-year-old Kyle Sieniawski, who had died from motor neurone disease (MND).
After the service, Mr Bailey was travelling home to Hay-on-Wye on the A438 between Glasbury and Clyro. Tragically, he was involved in a collision with two cars at around 4.48pm.
Emergency services attended, but Chris Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Community Devastated by 'Cruel' Loss
The family of Kyle Sieniawski said they were "absolutely devastated" to learn of the tragedy. In a heartfelt statement, they expressed their grief for a man who had shown them such kindness.
"Chris Bailey was a valued member of the Powys Chapter Valley Commandos and to lose his life after doing such an amazing gesture is just cruel beyond words," they said.
"Our hearts are breaking for his family, and Christmas is just days away. Life can be so cruel. We're thinking of all his family, friends, and also his comrades at the Valley Commandos."
Tributes Pour In for a 'Proud' Biker
One of Mr Bailey's best friends, Paul Borrington, paid an emotional tribute, saying he would "truly miss his smile, his laugh, his attitude and his beliefs".
"Chris was a proud member of the Valley Commandos," Mr Borrington said. "He had a massive future ahead of him within the club."
Dyfed-Powys Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses. The collision involved a black Yamaha motorbike, a black Mini Countryman Cooper and a black Volkswagen Polo.
Officers are urging anyone who was driving on that stretch of road or who may have dashcam footage to come forward, quoting reference 257 of December 19.
