63 Years of Marriage: Glyn and Margaret Owen's Timeless Love Story
Couple celebrates 63 years of marriage in Herefordshire

A Herefordshire couple have celebrated an incredible 63 years of marriage, demonstrating a lifetime of commitment and shared partnership. Glyn and Margaret Owen marked their blue sapphire anniversary surrounded by family and staff at Lynhales Hall Nursing Home, where they now reside together.

A Lifetime Built on Shared Labour and Love

The couple's journey began at a dance in Presteigne Memorial Hall in 1961. They married a year later on 29 December 1962 at St Tecla Church in Llandegelley. Their life together was fundamentally shaped by agriculture, as they spent decades farming across Mid Wales.

They worked several farms including The Garth Farm in Nantmel, Bryn Thomas in Penybont, and Cwm-Rhocas, before retiring to Bryn Mawr in Penybont. Farming was a true partnership, with both working the land. Margaret also managed a bed and breakfast and raised Christmas turkeys, while Glyn was active with the Builth Grasslands Society, bred sheepdog pups, and competed in trials, even hosting the Welsh National Sheepdog Trials in 2013.

Family at the Heart of Their Story

Family has been the cornerstone of their lives. They are parents to three children—Glyn, Mark, and Sue—and are proud grandparents to nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with two more expected later this year. The family endured the profound loss of their eldest son in 2021, but their strong bond and family support have provided enduring comfort.

In recent years, living in a nursing home near Swansea proved difficult due to the distance from loved ones. With help from family friend and clinical lead Annie Duggan, they relocated closer to home, moving into Lynhales Hall in August 2025, where they continue to share a room.

The Secret to a Lasting Partnership

Reflecting on their six-decade union, the couple emphasise teamwork and companionship. “They said it wouldn’t happen, but look at us now,” said Glyn. “We’ve never quarrelled; we always sorted things out together.”

Margaret added, “I don’t know what the secret is, but we did everything together. He worked outside and I worked inside.”

Annie Duggan, clinical lead at Lynhales Hall, shared her admiration: “It has been a real privilege to support Glyn and Margaret as they celebrated such a special milestone. Their story is beautiful.” Their remarkable marriage stands as a testament to shared values, dedication, and timeless love.
