Lincolnshire's 'Made With Love' Initiative Upcycles Furniture for Local Families

Lincolnshire County Council's Community Intervention Team has launched a transformative new initiative called 'Made With Love', which creatively upcycles donated furniture into high-quality, restored pieces for local residents in need. This innovative project breathes new life into old items, providing essential household goods while championing environmental sustainability across the county.

Donated Furniture Finds Fresh Purpose

All furniture used in the 'Made With Love' project is generously donated by members of the public and the waste team at Tattershall Household Waste and Recycling Centre. Each item undergoes careful restoration by the team as part of their reparation offer, ensuring it is given a fresh purpose. This process not only helps reduce waste significantly but also provides crucial support to families and individuals facing financial hardship or difficult circumstances.

Making a Tangible Difference in Communities

The Community Intervention Team has recently donated substantial amounts of furniture to various victims and those in need throughout Lincolnshire. In one impactful example, the team supported a family who had moved into a new home but lacked basic furniture for storing clothes or eating together as a family. The team provided everything required to help them settle comfortably into their new home, enabling a positive fresh start during a challenging transition period.

Expanding Reach Across Support Services

Over the past year, the Community Intervention Team—working alongside children supported by Future4Me—has donated furniture to multiple essential services across Lincolnshire, including:

  • Youth homelessness services
  • Social care teams
  • Children's centres
  • Women's refuges

Building on this success, the team now plans to expand the initiative through regular donation and collection days. This expansion will ensure that more people can benefit from the project while continuing to promote reuse and sustainability principles across the entire county.

Council Leaders Praise Community Spirit

Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive member for Children's Services at Lincolnshire County Council, emphasized the project's dual purpose: "Made With Love is about giving new life to old furniture while supporting people who need it most. Every item has been lovingly restored, and it's wonderful to see the difference it can make in someone's home."

Cllr Danny Brookes, executive councillor for Environment at Lincolnshire County Council, highlighted the environmental benefits: "This project is a fantastic example of how we can make the most of resources that might otherwise go to waste. By upcycling donated furniture, we're not only supporting local families but also helping to reduce what we throw away. It's community spirit and sustainability working hand in hand."
